Lifeline Service
Lifeline/Universal service is about making access to local telephone networks available at an affordable price to anyone who wants it, and providing this vital service is a cornerstone of Palmerton Telephone.
You may recall we talked about universal service in our March 2006 newsletter. But, you might have been left wondering how you qualify and what you have to do to receive the benefits.
Palmerton Telephone has two programs for those who qualify to receive discounted telephone service—which is part of the universal service goal. Those programs are Lifeline and Link Up America. Lifeline service gives a credit of $8.25 per month on your basic telephone service bill. Lifeline is available to those who qualify. Link Up America gives 50% off your telephone hook-up charge, and is available to those who qualify for Lifeline service.
To qualify for Lifeline & Link Up America:
-You must not be claimed as a dependent by anyone on their Federal Income Tax, unless you are 60 or older and you are in one of the following programs:
- General Assistance
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
- Food stamps
- Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
- Medicaid
- Federal Public Housing Assistance
-Your yearly income must be at or below 135% of the United States Census Bureau Poverty Guidelines.
